BCB paid tribute to Khaleda’s contributions to the sport
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called off both Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, following the death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia earlier in the day.
The decision was announced shortly after news of Zia’s passing emerged and just a few hours before the toss of the first match between Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Khaleda Zia, who passed away at 6:00am local time on Tuesday, served two terms as Bangladesh’s prime minister from 1991 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2006.
She was the country’s first female prime minister and the widow of former president Ziaur Rahman. Zia had led the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), founded by her husband, as its chairperson since 1984.
In a statement, the BCB paid tribute to her contributions to the sport.
“The BCB recalls with gratitude her constant blessings and good wishes for the progress of cricket in this country,” the statement read.

“In respect of the nation’s mourning and in honour of Begum Khaleda Zia’s legacy, the BCB announces that today’s scheduled Bangladesh Premier League matches have been cancelled and will be rescheduled. Further details regarding the revised fixtures will be communicated in due course,” it added.
The BPL 2025–26 season began on December 26, with three matchdays already completed. Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders were set to play the second match of the day.

Given the gaps between matchdays, the postponement is not expected to have a major impact on the tournament schedule.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) has also postponed nine matches of the Dhaka First Division Cricket League that were scheduled to be held from December 30 to January 1.
“The postponed matches will be rescheduled, and a revised itinerary will be issued in due course,” the CCDM said.
